Air Commodore John Dunbar Aquino (1777) was commissioned as a Pilot in the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force in December, 1941. In 1945, he was commended for his valuable services in the Air Force and later MentionedÂÂinÂÂDespatches for his gallantry during the Indo- Pakistan conflict of 1947. During his long and distinguished career he had the distinction of commanding five stations in addition to having served as Senior Officer-in-charge Administration of an Operational Command. In March, 1970, Air Commodore Aquino took over as the first Commandant of the Air Force Academy which was then in its early stages of formation. He displayed great perseverance and determination in ensuring the successful launching of this prestigious project despite heavy odds. It was because of his indefatigable efforts and tenacity of purpose that the Academy was able to start Flying Training In January, 1971. Throughout his career, Air Commodore John Dunbar Aquino has rendered distinguished service of an exceptional order. |
