Wing Commander Narinder Kumar was commissioned in the Engineering branch of IAF on 05 January 1976. After serving as unit engineering officer in various capacities for eight years, he underwent Flight Test Engineer Course in 1984 and served as Flight Test Engineer for six years. During this period he specialised in Flight Testing, Aircraft Modification and Armament Integration. In 1991, he was posted to a Jaguar squadron where he specialised on Sea Eagle missiles besides serving as Squadron Engineering Officer. In 1993, he was posted to Air HQ as Deputy Director Armament and Safety Equipment to oversee Russian missile maintenance and repair projects. In November 93, he was transferred to Directorate of Projects where he is presently associated with development and experimental programmes. In view of his background as a Flight Test Engineer and with special expertise on missile systems, he was given the responsibility to undertake aircraft adaptation trials of missiles over and above his primary duties. With ingenuity and dedication, he developed methods for dismantling missiles towards their life extension and performance checks. His initiative and contribution helped in repairing expensive missiles indigenously which otherwise would have required heavy expenses besides delays. For distinguished service of high order the President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Wg Cdr Narinder Kumar. |
